Apo Reef, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines
Situated in West Philippine Sea, Apo Reef is one of the best places to watch the sun set below the horizon. Together with my newfound friends, we witnessed this epic spectacle atop Apo Island’s lighthouse.

I still enjoyed my trip in Apo Reef even if I was not yet a swimmer during my visit. Thanks to the life jackets provided by Sablayan’s tourism office, non-swimmers like us were able to snorkel and see what Apo Reef has in store for its visitors.

Being in the middle of the open sea, Apo Island is the perfect getaway to take a break from the stressful city life. You get to stay in a place without hotels, electricity and cellular signal. Basically, an off-the-radar destination. All you have at night are stars scattered across the vast sky and the sound of waves lulling you to a deep slumber.

📜✏️ Tips/Reminders:
📌Bring your camping gears as there are no accommodations in Apo Island.
📌There is no electricity supply and cellular signal in the island.
📌Please note that the boat rental and island hopping fees would be expensive if you are traveling alone. It is advisable to join organized travel events online to cut on costs.
📌Expect rain and rough sea condition during monsoon season (June-February). Always check the weather first since you will be sailing in the West Philippine Sea to get to Apo Reef.
📌Always observe the LNT principles.

I promised myself that by the time I return to Apo Reef, I should already have the basic freediving skills. This is surely one of the best ways to see this coral reef system’s rich biodiversity.
